A home or car is a major purchase.  It is necessary to shop wisely.  Spend the time to do the research.  Consider the length of time you plan to own the car, home, or other purchase.  Also, consider how your decision will impact other purchases in the future.  For example, if your are buying insurance, the shopping and comparing may not be done each year.  If you understand that your insurance purchase may be valued at several thousands of dollars, you might spend more time shopping for it than you would a new DVD player.
